This large, colorful map welcomes visitors when they arrive at the Lake Gardner trailhead! Well-traveled pathways await to bring visitrs either along the lake edge to beautiful meadows, or to the top of Powow Hill and its sweeping vista of the ocean beyond!
"The trail was wonderful—serene, shady, and scenic."
"From Fairway Drive, the path took us on a short walk to the powder house structure, which, from a distance, kind of looked like it was from outer space! I found it quiet and the trails were pleasant to explore for a short outing. Glad to know about this historic spot!
Built for the war of 1812 to protect powder and munitions, this structure has seen better days. Though it has been restored more than once, it is hidden from view and has suffered from vandalism for years.
Efforts are underway to re-imagine the spot, possibly bring back the view, and perhaps artistically interpret the structure while telling its story. Stay tuned!
