Bridge & Trail Enhancements at Lake Gardner Beach |
We plan our final construction phase in May of 2008, during which we will construct a boardwalk over the extremely wet portion of trail which connects the far side of Powow Hill with Battis Farm conservation area as well as theCamp Kent Environmental Center beyond. Stay
tuned formore information as well as an opportunity to help us! |
While
nearly two hundred beach goers basked in the sun and enjoyed the waters
of Lake Gardner Beach nearby, the volunteers of this project trudged
though the mud tirelessly until project completion on one of the
hottest, most humid days June could muster. |
Beyond
the volunteers that day, many people stopped by to peek in on the
progress we were making. They were delighted at the prospect of
being able to use an area, previously considered inaccessable.
These trails are now a wonderful connection to the greater Riverwalk
project. |
And
that's what the LGIA is all about plain and simple. Our mission
is to promote recreational uses of the fantastic natural environment
surrounding Lake Gardner. We hope you too will come, enjoy and
care for this wonderful resource! |
On
Friday, crews worked to open up a 100 ft path and install a woodchip
bed above the layer of mud that would serve to connect the two
boardwalks to be built on Saturday. |
Saturday
morning volunteers began arriving before seven am. Crews worked on
boardwalk projects all day long, finishing up just moments before
sunset, sometime after 8 pm. At the end of the day, one could
finally enjoy a mud free stroll from the beach to the abutting trails. |
